“It’s the simple things in life that are the most extraordinary.”
That quote just about sums up these truffles. I have to say, they are one of my favorite treats in the world. With only four ingredients, this no-bake recipe is a winner all the time.
Over the years, I’ve made them on many occasions…as shower or birthday party favors, as gifts for my coworkers, for my staff luncheon contribution, and just to serve for various holidays. The nice part is that you can customize the color scheme depending on the look you want.
This is not an original recipe, but I find that the following combination of ingredients works best for me.
NO-BAKE OREO TRUFFLES
1 package of Oreo cookies (regular or double stuff)
1 – 8 ounce bar of cream cheese, softened
1 bag of chocolate candy disks, flavor / color of your choice (not chocolate chips)
Toppings [sprinkles, cookie crumbs, drizzled chocolate]
Steps:
1.) In a food processor, crush the Oreo cookies until fine.
2.) If you want to sprinkle some crumbs on top of the truffles, reserve a 1/2 cup.
3.) Add the softened cream cheese and combine.
4.) Using a spoon, create 1 inch balls and lay on parchment paper.
5.) Place chocolate disks in the microwave and heat in intervals of 30 seconds until melted. Stir between intervals.
6.) Dip the truffle balls into the chocolate until coated and place back on parchment paper.
7.) Sprinkle on topping of choice before chocolate has cooled.
8.) Refrigerate for an hour, or until firm. Store in a sealed container in the refrigerator.
Tip: I’ve found that milk and dark chocolate disks melt and cover the best. White chocolate tends to be thicker and it’s more difficult to get a smoother outer coating.
FYI ~ I just bought some red and pink sprinkles and a bag of milk chocolate disks for Valentine’s day, so my special people may be getting them again real soon! Enjoy! xo
